The average driver may not need a full-size pickup, but that open cargo box is just too convenient. When you pair it with a fully furnished cabin and reasonable mileage, it becomes an ideal vehicle for urban and suburban dwellers in need of an all-purpose transport. Both the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado and Honda Ridgeline serve as typical examples of such a pickup. Still, one is going to fit the ideal better than the other.
Performance
Knowing what kinds of capabilities owners expect from their Ridgeline pickups, designers at Honda equipped it with a 3.5-liter V6 able to generate 280 horsepower while holding mileage at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway*. This compares nicely to the Chevy Colorado splitting these optimal features among three blocks with less than inspiring results. Their 2.5-liter inline-4 gets virtually identical mileage but only provides 200 horsepower. Their 2.8-liter turbodiesel-4 kicks up mileage and low-speed torque but also supplies a weak 181 horsepower. With the Colorado’s 3.6-liter V6 alternative, horsepower moves to 308, but mileage takes a hit with 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Interior
The 2019 Ridgeline makes riders cozy in sundry ways starting with smooth cornering thanks to unibody construction for car-like handling. Helping with this and other operations is front-wheel drive that leverages engine heft for greater gripping power. Inside, the Ridgeline amplifies comfort with 38.8 inches of headroom and 36.7 inches of legroom for rear occupants over the respective 38.3 inches and 35.8 inches in the 2019 Colorado Crew Cab model. This leeway advantage grows when front and rear shoulder width of 62 inches and 61.5 inches in the Ridgeline is compared to 57.5 inches and 56.2 inches in the Chevy Colorado. There’s also a stark contrast between the Ridgeline’s front and back hip space of 59.1 inches and 56.6 inches over the Colorado’s respective 55 inches and 53.3 inches.
Safety
When it comes to purchasing a truck, you'll want to look into the safety features. The 2019 Ridgeline packs a variety of safety features such as multi-angle rearview camera, brake assist, anti-lock braking system, and vehicle stability assist with traction control. The Colorado also offers safety features such as six airbags, rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and StabiliTrak electronic stability control system.
