A large SUV with plenty of interior volume and a multitude of passenger-friendly amenities, the 2019 Honda Pilot is an agreeable family hauler. It's especially appealing to those who like the minivan idea but also welcome the crossover design. This big SUV is available in multiple trims, and each is loaded with standard features. The new 2019 model comes with many upgrades and additional features that set it apart from the 2018 offering, so those in the market for a large-size family transport should give it a close inspection.
LX Trim
All 2019 Honda Pilot trims including the base LX come with a 3.5L V6 rated at 260 horsepower. The LX comes standard with front-wheel drive and six-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include 18-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, a split-folding rear seat, driver alert system and complete safety suite.
The base trim can be ordered with all-wheel drive. The safety suite features, now standard across the trim lineup, include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and LED headlights. A rearview camera is also standard. A seven-speaker sound system, a USB port, an auxiliary audio jack, and Bluetooth are other standard features.
EX-L Trim
Stepping up to the uplevel EX, buyers are rewarded with even more convenience features. The 2019 Pilot EX-L comes with a sunroof, power tailgate, leather upholstery, and sliding second-row seats. The EX-L also features an optional moonroof, navigation, a Blu-ray rear entertainment system and smartphone app integration.
The EX-L and other trims are eligible for all-wheel drive, but the engine and powertrain are the same as on the base trim. The EX-L comes with a few other convenience features including a memory driver's seat, blind-spot monitors, keyless ignition, and upgraded trim accents. The EX-L and all other trims now come with a different infotainment system than what was offered the previous year.
Elite Trim
This is the top trim level of the 2019 Honda Pilot. It offers a few extras, most of them having to do with interior accents. However, for those who are interested in performance, it should be noted that the Elite comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Other standard features include a panoramic moonroof, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, heated steering wheel, and heated second-row seats.
The Elite trim also has larger wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and a 10-speaker audio system. This and the mid-trims are available for several other stand-alone options. The Elite can also be purchased with second-row captain's chairs, which reduces the seating capacity to seven.
