As subcompact crossover SUVs have grown in popularity over the years, the Honda HR-V has established itself as one of the better offerings. Already with a reputation for creating reliable, fuel-efficient, and expertly engineered vehicles, Honda provides a tiny SUV that has more interior space than most of its rivals. The 2019 model year marks a general overhaul of the HR-V nameplate, which is currently in its second generation of production. There are now five trims: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The Sport and Touring are new for 2019.
Performance
Powering all trims of the 2019 Honda HR-V is a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. The manual transmission is no longer available; the engine is now paired with a continuously variable transmission for a more fuel-efficient and smoother drive due to the absence of gear shifting. Front-wheel drive is standard, with the option of going with an all-wheel-drive system for optimized traction ability.
Interior
The 2019 Honda HR-V is a two-row vehicle that can accommodate up to five people. Front-seat heating ability is added on the EX and higher, the EX-L and Touring get leather upholstery, and the top-of-the-line Touring stands alone with an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. For comfort and convenience, the HR-V starts out with features such as cruise control, four-speaker 160-watt audio, a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth® wireless technology for audio streaming and hands-free phone operation, and a USB port and audio jack for connecting mobile devices. Starting with the brand-new Sport trim level, you will get substantial additions or enhancements, which include an additional USB port, six-speaker 180-watt stereo system (in place of the four-speaker), a 7-inch color high-resolution screen (instead of the 5-inch), Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for smartphone integration, HondaLink® for remote connectivity, and hands-free text messaging. The EX will add automatic climate control, push-button engine start, a SiriusXM® satellite radio trial subscription, and HD Radio™. At the EX-L trim level, automatic dimming ability will be added on the rearview mirror. And the Touring is the only trim with a garage-door opener and a satellite-linked navigation system with advanced voice recognition.
Safety
For safety, the 2019 Honda HR-V comes with hill start assist, vehicle stability assist, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, LED daytime running lights, a multi-angle backup camera, engine immobilization as a security mechanism, and six airbags. Honda Sensing®—a driver-assistance technology suite that combines advanced side-mirror assistance (Honda LaneWatch™), lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking, and road departure mitigation—are now standard on the EX trim and higher.
