Honda has been one of the world's leading automotive manufacturers for decades, a reputation they earned through innovation and hard work. In 2019, that streak continues with the releases of the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord, two pristine offerings in their class.

Both vehicles are available primarily as sedans, although the Civic offers coupe and hatchback variants for extra customization. They stand out in the 2019 year based on excellent performance, polished interiors and top of the line safety features - and while both vehicles have performed well in past years, the Civic is updated for this year whereas the Accord remains relatively untouched.

Performance

Under the hood, the Civic boasts an array of engine variations based on trim level. The sporty trim, the Civic Type-R, carries a 306-horsepower 2.0-liter supercharged beast with four cylinders - and on the more affordable side, the standard Honda Civic carries the same engine without the supercharge. The horsepower offered by the supercharged version is almost twice that of the standard model, which boasts 158-horsepower. Meanwhile, the Honda Accord has a slightly stronger standard engine at 192-horsepower in a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Both vehicles perform with horsepower indicative of their small size but paired with a smooth ride that make their performance a highlight of the year's offerings.

Interior

The Honda Civic impresses with a fairly upscale standard interior. The knobs and dials are easy to turn, the cargo space roomy, and even the smallest of the Civic's builds will comfortably accommodate four people. A 7-inch infotainment screen comes standard, but the screen lacks some of the more advanced assets that you might find in a pricier vehicle. The Honda Accord, likewise, saves most of its best features for the higher levels of trim - but both vehicles still manage to feel comfortable and roomy, offering plenty of space for luggage and for even large families.

Safety Features

Of these two vehicles, the Honda Accord has a wider suite of standard safety features, encompassing the entire Honda Sensing package. This package comes with high-tech offerings like traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control, as well as automatic adaptive high-beams and collision detection to make sure you're safe no matter the situation. The Honda Civic has fewer safety options in comparison, but does have six airbags and a rear view camera, among other features. If the Honda Civic is upgraded to the EX trim level or higher, it comes with Honda's LaneWatch camera, intended to allow a driver to check their blind spot without having to turn their head.
