The 2019 Honda Civic gets a few minor upgrades, and these are mostly aesthetic in nature. This model is in its third year of its generation, and it's targeted toward a wide audience that includes singles who commute on a daily basis, families with small children, and teen drivers. It's a safe car to drive, and although it's considered a compact, it boasts an extremely roomy interior.
If safety is priority, the 2019 Civic should be on your short list for a new vehicle. The Honda Sensing suite is now standard across the trim lineup. You also have two engine choices, and it's highly recommended that you test drive the EX, EX-L, or Touring trims to get a feel of what the turbocharged engine can deliver.
Performance
The standard engine, a 2.0L four-cylinder, makes 158 horsepower and is mated to your choice of a six-speed manual or CVT. If you choose the sedan version, you get 16-inch steel wheel, and if you go for the coupe, the wheels are 16-inch alloy. Power is sent to the front wheels. Driving the Civic is a real pleasure, even if you go for the underpowered engine. Steering is precise, and handling is a breeze. If you need passing power, you'll thrill to the feel of the 1.5L turbocharged engine that's standard on the uplevel trims. This engine produces 174 horsepower, and the turbo kick-in is quite dramatic. The 2019 Honda Civic also gets top marks for braking.
Interior
Even if you choose the base LX trim, you get a lot for the money. Automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a rearview camera are all standard. You also get Bluetooth, a 5-inch color screen display, and a nice four-speaker sound system. The Sport trim steps things up a bit with 60/40-split folding rear seats, rear seat armrest cupholders, a 7-inch screen display, an eight-speaker sound system, and smartphone app integration. This model version also features the HondaLink interface. The uplevel trims pile on even more goodies. These include dual-zone automatic climate control and a sunroof. Also included are satellite radio, guidelines for the rearview camera, a power-adjustable driver' seat, and paddle shifters. The Touring trim gets you heated front and rear seats, navigation, and a 10-speaker audio system.
Safety
Every 2019 Honda Civic comes with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front, front-side, and rear airbags, rear door child safety locks, and child seat anchors and tethers. The Honda Sensing suite of driver aids is now includes across the trim lineup. You get lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, frontal collision warning with automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control without paying for optional packaging. The uplevel trims also feature the Honda LaneWatch system with its integrated blind-spot camera system.
