The 2018 Honda Fit enjoys critical success that eludes the 2018 Toyota Yaris. With top rankings, the Fit has shown itself as a leader in the subcompact segment. This review will look at how the two fare when placed side by side.
Performance
The Yaris engine only earns 106 horsepower. This low rating should mean good gas mileage, but the Yaris can’t match the Fit. Sweetening this scenario for Fit drivers, the engine cranks out 130 horsepower. That’s a lot of fuel savings and a better engine in the 2018 Honda Fit. Does the fuel economy making a differences? Curb Size vs Interior Space
The Yaris is about a half-inch shorter than the Fit. Yet there is a huge difference in interior space. The Fit measures 95 cu.ft. of passenger area in its cabin. Yaris cabins have only 84 cu.ft. for passengers. While the Yaris is criticized for poor seats, the Fit gets high marks. In particular, the back row has class-above legroom and supportive, high-mounted seats that can keep adults more comfortable. Storage space is also bigger and more flexible on the Fit. There’s 15.6 cu.ft. in the Yaris hold while the Fit can claim 16.6 cu.ft. Furthermore, only the Fit has a folding front seat for more length. Both have folding back row seats, but Honda has another alternative. It’s Magic Seat allows you to claim more vertical space.
Safety
The Fit has slightly higher scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. When it comes to reverse maneuvers, you’ll prefer the Fit with its standard rearview camera. Most Fit models also come with Honda’s exclusive LaneWatch. This puts a camera in the side mirror to give the driver a perfect view of side traffic, reducing the chances of a wreck during a lane change.
