Prepare Your Honda for Off-Road Travel near Reston, VA

At Honda of Chantilly, we have various Honda vehicles that have trim levels specifically for trail and off-road travel. You’re going to have the capacity to choose from any one of these trims as well as purchase packages that will better help you with the accessories you need to go off-road. If you have any questions about how to further prepare your Honda for off-road travel, contact our team. We’re excited to help you!

Mechanically Equipped Vehicle for Off-Road Travel

FWD, which is standard on most vehicles, is not the ideal system necessary for off-roading, so if you’re planning on making additional trips to uneven terrain, you're going to want to switch to either AWD or 4WD, depending on the kind of vehicle you purchase. Pickup trucks like the Ridgeline sometimes have 4WD while other cars have RWD instead. Honda models only come with FWD or AWD so you don’t have to worry about not having the right equipment. You will also have a Drive Mode Select feature that can, if needed, have a Trail or Mud variation that will be ideal when you’re navigating these situations. You must have the right suspension and ample ground clearance as well so bumps in the road won’t be an issue.

Research Your Terrain

If you’re driving your Honda Pilot or Passport and you’re planning to visit Lake Fairfax Park or Difficult Run Stream Valley Trail, Georgetown, you should be researching the location. If you’re seeing gravel roads in pictures on areas like Google Maps or you’re checking websites and run into a specific list of activities, this will help you better protect your vehicle and equip the right accessories when needed. There are various differences when you’re driving on distinct terrain. Driving on sand isn’t as easy as driving on gravel, while dirt is soft but easy to stay on top of with the right tires. Mud can be tricky to navigate, especially if you don’t have a comfortable ground clearance. You can buy any of these items from our Parts Department!

Services and Maintenance

You should prepare your vehicle for off-road travel even further with additional services and maintenance before you go. An oil change will ensure your engine is prepared to handle the items that you are towing or if you’re going to be driving further distances. Brake system checks on both your trailer and your vehicle are necessary so you’re not participating in any accidents due to improper care. Along with this, having the right tires to go trailing or to drive off-road will be necessary to make sure you have the proper grip needed and you’re not slipping and sliding around on a trip meant to be fun. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them when you visit our Service Department.
