How Often Should I Get an Oil Change?

If you want to enjoy your current ride for several more years to come, one of the best ways to keep it healthy is to keep up with regular maintenance. That being said, timely oil changes just might be the most important procedure to get done, as it keeps your engine running smoothly and ensures friction doesn’t eventually degrade important components. How Often Should I Change Oil?

Unfortunately, it’s not always obvious when it’s time to swap your old oil out for a clean batch. That’s why most dealerships recommend keeping up with it within a certain number of miles or time. The prevailing consensus is roughly 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every three to six months. The huge degree of variability has to do with your driving habits. If you frequently take short trips, it’s best to be more frequent because condensation can accumulate and reduce the overall lifespan of oil. If you drive ten miles or more at a time, you can wait a little longer.

Now, remove it and take a look at where the oil line falls on the spectrum at the bottom. You’ll see signs that clearly label whether your liquid is above or below the recommended levels.
