Honda Tariff Information for Shoppers
Shoppers across the United States are concerned about how tariffs will affect their expenses. To help you better understand what a tariff is, we at Honda of Chantilly created this overview to let you know what tariffs are, what they mean, and what steps you should take going forward.
What Is a Tariff?
Tariffs are government taxes imposed on goods that are imported into a country. The business or country receiving the products pays those fees and taxes based on the percentage set by their home country’s government. On March 26, 2025, several U.S. Government mandates increased automotive tariffs by 25 percent, bringing the total up to 27.5 percent from the initial 2.5 percent set four years prior. These tariffs will be placed on passenger vehicles, such as minivans, sedans, pickup trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and many other car types. Each of these vehicle categories is under an ad valorem tariff, which is defined as a tax with a fixed percentage value of the imported goods.
What Does the Recent Auto Tariff Change Mean for Honda Shoppers?
Honda vehicles that are in transit and those that are in our inventory aren’t affected by the tariffs. You can expect prices to remain stable from April 2025 through May 2025. Costs for new Honda models can potentially increase by June or July 2025. That’s because the vehicles coming in will be newly imported from international factories. Sedans, SUVs, crossovers, pickup trucks, and minivans that are manufactured in the United States are forecasted to be less affected by tariffs. Any foreign parts used in the Honda models will likely see a rise in expenses. For those shopping for a used Honda, you won’t have to worry about higher prices for the immediate future because the tariff doesn’t affect pre-owned models.
Recommendations and Next Steps
Our Honda of Chantilly team is eager to provide clarity on which models could be affected by the tariffs. Therefore, we encourage you to speak to our sales representatives to get specific details on the vehicle you’re looking to purchase. The good news is that several popular Honda vehicles are assembled in states like Ohio, such as the Accord and CR-V. Even some engines are produced in the United States. Although prices are subject to rise, the tariffs have the potential to change after negotiations. Our staff will be there every step of the way to make sure you’re informed about those shifts.
