With the many models in the compact SUV segment, it can be hard to find the right one for you. Our team here at Honda of Chantilly are confident in the 2026 Honda CR-V and have decided to pit it against the 2026 Kia Sportage to show you how it fares against the competition.
Interior
Despite being lauded for its interior storage space, the Kia Sportage doesn’t hold a candle up to the 2026 Honda CR-V, which enjoys up to 76.5 cubic ft. of cargo space1 with seats down. Compare this with the 74.1 cubic ft. of storage space behind the front seats that the Kia holds, and you can see which is ideal for you. Additionally, if you’re tired of being blinded by the headlights on the car behind you while you drive down I-66, then the CR-V will have you covered with the available automatic dimming rearview mirror. This feature helps to reduce glare since it was built with electrochromic gel that can absorb the light. On the Sportage, you won’t be able to find a similar feature. You will, however, find that both models enjoy available dual zone automatic climate control, which can give you and your front passenger your own personal temperatures.
Performance
What really makes the 2026 Honda CR-V stand out against the Sportage is its strength and efficiency. The Honda comes equipped with a standard 1.5L 4-cylinder engine that is capable of pushing out up to 190 horsepower2 and 179 lb.-ft. of torque3. If you take a look underneath the Kia’s hood, you’ll find a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that can only produce up to 187 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. Despite its stronger output, the Honda still manages to maintain better efficiency with its 28/33/30 MPG city/hwy/combined4 fuel economy rating. On the other hand, the Sportage has a 25/33/28 MPG city/hwy/combined5 fuel efficiency score, that will have your trips to Van Dyck Park get interrupted with more stops at the gas station. In addition to this, the CR-V is better designed to weave through the busy streets of Vienna and beyond thanks to its 37.3 ft. turning circle. Sportage manages to have a 38.6 ft. turning circle, which will gives it wider turns. But on a high note, both have available AWD for the winter snow.
Technology
To end our comparison, let's take a look at the technological features of both. When you upgrade the Honda CR-V, audiophiles will be able to enjoy the available Bose Premium Sound System with 12 Speakers6. In the Sportage, you’ll be able to get the available Harman Kardon® Premium Surround Sound, which only comes with eight speakers7. If your mobile device runs low while on the drive, then you can use the standard wireless phone charger8 found in the Honda to keep your device powered. If you’re hoping to avoid getting tangled in the Sportage, then you’ll need to upgrade since it’s an available option. Lastly, when you reach your destination in the CR-V, you’ll have consistent internet service with the available Wi-Fi® Hotspot Capability9. There’s no such feature like this in the Sportage.
