Performance
While you’re bound to have an exciting time behind the wheel of both the Accord and Civic, the former is certainly the option for folks who want to feel their hearts beating in their chest when they hit the gas on Interstate 395. That’s because it comes standard with a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that places 192 horsepower1 and 192 lb.-ft. of torque2 in your hands. In comparison, the beastly 2.0L 4-cylinder system under the hood of the Civic still manages to impress with 158 horsepower and 138 lb.-ft. of torque. That being said, if you want to maximize efficiency, spring for the available 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain to benefit from its 32/42/36 MPG city/hwy/combined3 fuel economy rating. On the other side of things, the Accord's aforementioned engine gets 30/38/33 MPG city/hwy/combined4.
Comfort
As a compact sedan, the 2020 Honda Civic is probably a good choice for individuals who don’t transport as many guests from point A to point B. However, with 97.8 cubic ft. of passenger volume, you can be sure that everyone tagging along will get to kick and relax. To treat yourself like royalty, you’ll also be able to equip this ride with an optional 8-way power driver’s chair. On the other hand, the 2020 Honda Accord takes things up a notch with 105.6 cubic ft. of passenger volume and an available 12-way power driver’s seat with 4-way lumbar support. Moreover, while this midsize sedan comes standard with a dual-zone automatic climate control system, the Civic only offers this feature as an option. Likewise, you’ll have to go with the Accord to get a standard Push Button Start system.
Safety
Honda has always been known for their advanced safety technologies, so it should come as no surprise that the Honda Accord and Civic are suited up with plenty of reliable systems. Coming standard on both models is the Collision Mitigation Braking5, which will apply stopping force on your behalf to mitigate or prevent accidents from occurring. Additionally, both Honda vehicles provide standard Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow6, so you can be confident that your ride will adjust to maintain a certain distance between you and other drivers on the highway. One optional feature you’ll be able to get on the Accord that doesn’t come with the Civic is the Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor7, which will tell you when another car is approaching either side of your back bumper.
