Don’t run blindly into buying a crossover SUV without comparing them! We know it can be a pain to do, though, so we at Honda of Chantilly are lending a hand! Today, we’re comparing the 2017 Honda CR-V with the 2017 Toyota RAV4 – two fierce competitors in the CUV segment. Both offer strong engines, well-equipped trims, and a plethora of safety features. Which will take the gold, though, at the end of this article? Let’s find out!

What motivates us, as individuals, is important, so it’s unsurprising that the same is true about what we drive. The CR-V is equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder that dishes out an engaging 184 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of torque to give you a little something-something on those slow, weekday mornings. While the RAV4 does make for a strong competitor, the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder just can’t match the CR-V. Falling short with its 176 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque, you just won’t get the same vigor. You’ll find the same correlation when it comes to efficiency. The CR-V accomplishes up to a very frugal 28/34/30 MPG city/hwy/combined1, while the RAV4 just can’t quite achieve the same, capping out at 23/30/26 MPG city/hwy/combined2.

The CR-V and RAV4 both come with exemplary safety features – they boast pre-collision systems, lane assistance, and much more. There is one feature that the Honda CR-V can claim to offer more generously: the Blind Spot Monitoring System with Cross Traffic Monitor3. This features comes standard on the second trim of the CR-V, the EX. To get this same feature, an indispensable one for confidently switching lanes, you’d have to add on a package to the second trim of the RAV4, or dish out more cash for the third trim level. The CR-V can also be equipped with Honda LaneWatchTM4, which actually gives you a curbside view of the area adjacent to your vehicle – right on the 7-inch touchscreen! The RAV4 can’t claim anything like that! Finally, the CR-V comes standard with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera5 with Guidelines that will make every maneuver in reverse an easy one. It gives you three distinctive views, normal, top-down, and wide angle, so that you have a clear understanding of your position. The RAV4, on the other hand, only comes with a typical one-view backup-camera6. You can upgrade it to the Bird’s Eye View7, but it’ll cost you more for what the CR-V provides standard!

Advanced technology is all the rage – and who doesn’t want to be seamlessly connected to their mobile phone even while driving? Both of these CUVs offer a plethora of technology, but you’ll find one glaring absence on the RAV4: Apple CarPlayTM8 and Android AutoTM9. These two compatibilities are key for the abilities you want, like sending and receiving texts, interacting with apps, and even projecting turn-by-turn directions onto the center stack touchscreen. The CR-V offers both so you can keep your eyes on the road and still have all of the interaction you want!

This comparison between the 2017 Honda CR-V vs 2017 Toyota RAV4 in Chantilly, VA, has revealed a surefire winner for us: the CR-V. Come to Honda of Chantilly and take this CUV for a test drive today! You can rest assured that we’ll treat you right – we were awarded the 5-Star Dealer Award by Edmunds.com for our exemplary customer service!
