Let’s talk about what’s rumbling under these hoods, first. Both have a number of enticing options, so let’s begin with the standard engines. The Accord comes equipped with a 2.4-liter in-line 4 that produces a spirited 185 horsepower and 181 lb.-ft. of torque – this same engine can be tuned to 189 horsepower and 182 lb.-ft. of torque for an extra dose of vigor on your morning commute. You’ll be impressed by the frugality of this engine, too, the standard option paired with a CVT sipping fuel slowly at 27/36/30 MPG city/hwy/combined1. The Ford Fusion comes standard with a 2.5-liter Duratec® I-4 powerhouse that simple falls short with only 175 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. The second engine option, a 1.5-liter Ti-VCT I-4 EcoBoost® can’t trump the Accord’s first two engines either, only offering 181 horsepower. This lack of power doesn’t even equate to more efficiency in the Fusion, falling short with both options at 21/32/25 and 23/34/27 MPG city/hwy/combined2.

Both offer upgraded options and we’ll let the Fusion take the stage first this round. The third engine option for the Fusion is a 2.0-liter TI-VCT I-4 EcoBoost®, and it does hike up its output to a commendable 245 horsepower. Fuel efficiency drops though, consuming gas at 21/31/25 MPG city/hwy/combined2. The 2017 Accord can claim both a higher fuel efficiency and more horsepower on its V6 – clocking in at 21/33/25 MPG city/hwy/combined1 which seems fair since you’ll be zipping around town with 278 horsepower!

Let’s move onto technology – when it comes to safety, we don’t like to mess around, especially with all of the advanced systems available. The Accord comes standard with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines3 that gives you three angles to ascertain your position: normal, top-down, and wide. The projected path will also assist in getting you around those garbage cans at the end of your driveway – because hitting them again is something you’d like to avoid. The Fusion only comes with a standard one-image Rear View Camera4, which offers less of the advancement when geared in reverse. You’ll see a difference in driver-assist features, too, including the fact that you can equip them on every single Accord, but the Fusion limits which safety features can be equipped on which model. The Accord also offers a Collision Mitigation Braking System5 and Road Departure Mitigation System5, neither of which you’ll find on the Fusion!
